What is Electron Beam Perforation processing?
This is a type of thermal processing in which the surface of the workpiece is irradiated with a highly focused electron beam, locally and for a short time.
Holes are drilled by melting and evaporating caused by the heat generated.
High-density micro holes can be drilled in thick plates with high precision, which is difficult to achieve with conventional processing.
Compared to other drilling methods such as carbide drills, CO2 lasers, and punching, EBP method has the advantage of being able to accurately drill a large number of holes in a short period of time.
EBP can process a range of hole diameters from 0.1 mm to 1.0 mm and plate thicknesses from 0.1 mm to 8.0 mm.
EBP is especially effective in micro hole drilling of φ0.2mm or less (hatched area in the figure), which is difficult with other machining methods.
Processing accuracy
EBP processing is capable of producing several thousand pulses of electron beam per second, we have achieved ultra-high speed processing of 4000 holes per second at the maximum drilling speed.
The CNC control enables accurate processing of hole diameter and pitch as well as various hole layouts, achieving highly reproducible perforations as designed.
The exit side, where the electron beam penetrates, is extremely smooth with no burrs.

Features of electron beam drilling
- Ultra-high speed
- Capable of producing several thousand pulses of electron beam per second, we have achieved ultra-high speed processing of 4000 holes per second at the maximum drilling speed.
- High precision
- The CNC control enables accurate processing of hole diameter and pitch as well as various hole layouts, achieving highly reproducible perforations as designed. The exit side, where the electron beam penetrates, is extremely smooth with no burrs.
- Capable of processing into high performance materials (special materials)
-
Compatible with most materials except high melting point materials.
We are able to drill holes in a wide variety of materials, such as stainless steel, Hastelloy, titanium, super alloys and super heat resistant alloys.
- Capable of deep hole processing
- Capable of processing up to 10 times the thickness of the hole diameter and is not affected by the hardness or surface condition of the material being processed.
- Capable of drilling holes in molded products (complex shapes)
-
CNC control and a 5-axis manipulator enable high-precision drilling of molded products (complex shapes).
Only electron beams can be used to process molded products.
- Oblique hole processing
- Oblique hole drilling with an inclination of up to Min20° hole angle is realized at a high precision level.
- Long hole (slot hole) processing is also available.
-
In addition to round holes, long holes (slot holes) can also be processed.
Slotted holes are excellent for centrifugal separators and other dewatering applications because they have a large porosity.
- Hole cross-sectional shape is also selectable.
- The hole cross-section is basically tapered, but can also be machined into a straight shape (taper ratio ≤3%).
